A Real Christmas tree
It’s time to go buy the tree today! I
remember, when I was young, the family every year would go out the Friday after
Thanksgiving and go pick out our tree at the tree farm. We would take our dogs
and they would run through the trees and my sister and I would run with them.
Then we would pick out the tree and they would put our name on the tree and a
couple of weeks later we would cut the tree down and take it home.
Today the process will be much
simpler than it used to be, but not as much fun. I will go to Home Depot and
look through the already cut trees and pick one out. The process takes only
about 30 minutes and I always worry that when I get the tree home, it will look
nothing like it did at the store.
Getting a real Christmas tree is very
important to me, because the smell of the tree brings back such great memories.
Even though the process of getting the tree has been changed and I know the
tree that I will eventually buy was cut long before I bring it home, the real
tree is still the most significant part of decorating for Christmas.
I talked about homes being built
around beautiful trees a while back, the Christmas tree is also the center of
the Christmas celebration. Think about how much attention is spent on the tree.
You bring it home and set it in the center of the room, or near a window so all
can see. You make sure it is straight and the full side is the main visual
side. You put the lights on the tree and then decorate the tree with colorful
ornaments that many times have been in the family for years. Then you put all
your gifts under the tree. When people come into your home, the first thing
they will see and comment is the Christmas tree.
Yes, the Real Christmas is such a
great part of Christmas, and if I had young children, I would find a tree farm
and let them enjoy the process of picking out and cutting down their own tree.
But even though I will not cut my own tree, I will pick out a beautiful tree to
be the center of attention this Christmas
