The tools of the trade you should not be without
This
Christmas if you are thinking about buying tools for yourself or someone else,
there are two tools that every do it yourselfer must have in their tool box.
In my business
of Property Management in Orange County Ca. I don’t get to use my tools very much,
but as a Licensed California General Contractor, I still love Tools. There are many
tools that make your life much easier, but there are two tools that you cannot
be without.
The 1st
and most important tool in your tool box is a “SKILSAW”. If you are not
familiar with this saw, it is a circular saw and I use the name Skilsaw because
in my opinion “Skil” which is a brand name and is the only circular saw that
you should buy. The best circular saw that Skil makes is the worm drive skilsaw.
There is no match to the power and performance of the skilsaw and it last
forever without much maintenance at all. I have had the same Skilsaw for years
and have done nothing to it at all. There are many brands of circular saw but
none compare to Skil.
The next
must have tool is the “SAWZALL”, now a Sawzall is a reciprocating saw that can
do many things, I can’t tell you the things that I have done with a Sawzall and
the time this tool has save me throughout the years. The Sawzall can be fitted
with different size blades and can cut through wood and metal, and there is
even a blade that can cut through stucco. Now as far as a brand, my favorite is
“Milwaukee”. Milwaukee is a very good
company and makes many tools. I also like “Porter-cable”. Porter-cable is also
a very good tool company. “Dewalt” is a very popular brand and is a subsidiary of Stanley Black & Decker.
I have never owned a DeWalt tool but I know many
contractors that swear by them.
Now
the question of power cord or battery always comes up. With the Skilsaw, If you
are only going to have one, buy the corded saw, If you can have the luxury of
both a corded and a battery tool then by all means have them both.
When
it comes to a Sawzall the battery powered saw is great. The more power, the
more expensive and the heavier the tool is. The 18 volt is plenty of power and
will last for years. The batteries do go out after a while and they are not
cheap to replace.
So
this Christmas, here are two gifts that will be a big hit for the building
professional or the do it yourselfer in your life.
Merry
Christmas!
