Is Privacy going to make a comeback?
With all the
talk about the cyber attack of Sony, we all can be sure that anything we have
on line can and probably will be stolen in the future. With the popularity of
Facebook and twitter, people put their whole life on line and their privacy is nonexistent.
But will Privacy make a comeback?
I have to
say, that I only use Social Media for Business purposes and everything out
there is what I want people to see about me and my business of Property
Management in Orange County Ca. In fact
the reason that I participate in Social Media is so everyone finds out who I am
as far as what I do for a living.
I still am amazed how much personal stuff people put out there in cyber space. There are some things that most of us have
no control over and as we see in the Sony situation many of the employee’s
personal medical records may have been breached. The more medical records
become digitized, the less private they are. There are good reasons for medical
records to become digitized, it gives all your Doctors access to your records
and that is a good thing, but obviously the safety of those records are
questionable at best.
Banking
records are also not private; the government has access to all you’re banking
records and believe me, if they have the key to the bank records so do others.
All of us who use the cloud storage also have to wonder about the security of
what we put out there.
We probably have reached a point of no return when it
comes to real privacy; we just have to count on the companies that we use to
protect us.
There is one
place that we can recoup our privacy, and that is with our private
communications and our private thoughts. We control what we put in our e-mails
and who we send those e-mails to. E-mail is a great way to communicate quickly but
again they are not private, so when you send an e-mail just understand that
they are not private and before you hit “SEND” say to yourself, do I care if
the world reads what I am going to send, If not then hit “DELETE”!
I would love
for privacy to come back into vogue. In fact I am starting to carry cash again,
which I have not done for years. There are things that are out of our hands,
unless we completely drop out of society, which sometimes may seem attractive,
but when we do have a chance to re-capture our privacy, we should do it.
