The Day After Christmas
The day after Christmas is always a tough day. Many people
this year will take the 4 day Holiday and not have to get up early and go to
work. But just think about those people who have to work at the retail stores
today.
All those Christmas sales will
turn into the day after nightmare.
Let the returns begin. Instead of Black Friday, this day
should be called “Return Friday”. All those unwanted gifts that can’t be
re-gifted will head back to the shelves. I have a feeling that the same people,
who are fighting their way into the stores on Thanksgiving, are the same people
who will be waiting at the Mall doors this morning to make their returns.
From the outside looking in, I have to wonder, “What is
wrong with these people”? I think that this is some king of sport to them. The
Thanksgiving sales are like the start of the shopping Olympics and the day
after Christmas is the closing ceremonies. What do they do the rest of the
year? Is there some kind of training program for this new sport? I think there
should be some kind of referee, to control these people, as we see on the news,
many of these new sport participants get out of control and get into fights. I
guess it is like Hockey, they drop their packages instead of their gloves and
start throwing punches.
I make light of this shopping and return frenzy, but I do
think that it is a strange way to spend your time. It makes me think that maybe
we have it too easy. There must be some
other productive way for people to spend their time. I really feel bad for those
retail workers, even though that is their job, I just can’t imagine how
frustrating it must be to deal with all those out of control shoppers or
returners. It reminds me of all those people who wait for days in line to get
the new Apple device. Or the people who wait in line to get the next Nike shoe.
Part of the problem are the stores themselves, constantly
pushing the sales. I get bombarded with e-mails every day letting me know it is
the “LAST DAY” for the big sale. How can it be the last day, every day?
Keep sending those e-mails, but I have better things to do.
In my business of Property Management in Orange County Ca. I will be getting ready for the year end
information I need to send to my clients. I won’t be at the Mall!
