Some things should not be said
With social media so prevalent in our world, stupid
words and phrases spread like crazy. It seems as though people can’t help
themselves from talking like everyone else and the more social media people
consume the less individualism people seem to have. There are some words and
phrases that should never be used, especially by anyone over 25. When I talk to
people in my business of Property Management in Anaheim Ca. I often hear these
words or phrases used over and over, and age has nothing to do with it.
Let’s start with an easy one
#1
“SO”
When you ask someone a question, why do they start
their answer with “SO”. When did this trend start? For example, if you ask
someone, “How much did your car cost”? Their answer will be “So, I paid
$25,000.
What is that about?
#2
“Hash tag anything”
I am so tired of this Hash tag stuff. Please stop,
I know it is part of the everyday trending garbage but it is so annoying.
#3
“At the end of the day”
This cliché is used over and over in everyday
conversation. When I hear it I just turn away and laugh, unless you actually
mean something that ends at dusk, don’t say it.
#4
“Hot Mess”
If you are over 20, these two words should not be
used together. Nothing says “I’m old but trying to be hip” like “Hot Mess”
#5
“I’ve got your back”
Unless you are in the Military or work for the police
or are a fire fighter, please don’t use this phrase.
#6
“Let me be perfectly clear”
When someone says this, I know something that makes
no sense will follow
#7
“I’LL DO”
When you give your order at a Restaurant and you
tell the server, “I’ll do”, please tell me what that means. To me, when you say
“I’ll do the Roast Beef, that can mean many things!
#8
“With all due respect”
When someone says to you “With all due respect”,
you know they think you are and idiot or at least what you said was stupid. No
respect should be expected.
#9
“There is no Debate”
When I hear this, it tells me that the person
saying this, has no confidence in what they are saying, so they try and shut
off any opposition.
#10
“Historic”
Everything today is historic, the weather is
historic, the game is historic, and the event is historic. I guess it makes
people feel relevant if they think they are a part of history. I hate to tell
you, but very few things are Historic.
This list is in no particular order, and I could
come up with plenty more to add to the list. I try and never use these words or
phrases especially in my business of Property Management in Orange County Ca. and
I hope with time they will just go away, but unfortunately in the world we live
in, things seem to live forever once it gets out there and it probably will
take forever for these words and phrases to go away, but I will do my part and
not participate in the destruction of individual thought.
