Realtors need to have very
thick skin
Before I became a Realtor
and then a Broker, I was and still am a contractor and my dealings with
Realtors were not the best memories I have.
My first experience with a
Realtor was when I had built my first home and was getting ready to put it on
the Market. I found a Realtor and wanted to talk to her and find out if I was
going to give her the listing. We met and I told her I wanted to think about it. An
hour later, she showed up with a young couple that wanted to see the property.
I was so impressed that she would bring someone to the house without even
having the listing that I signed with her. I never saw her again until; the
listing was ready to be renewed. Later I found out that the original couple she
brought to see the home, were just two people who worked in her office and not
real buyers. That episode left a very bad taste in my mouth and I have had
other bad experiences with Realtors in my capacity as a contractor.
When I became a Realtor, I
started to understand why so many Realtors seemed very underhanded in their dealings
with the public. They get worked over so many times, especially when they are
starting out that they get jaded in their work and often if they stay in the
business, they become the predator and work really hard not to be taken
advantage of.
Unfortunately there are
many Realtors like that and Now I feel bad for them because they let the job
get the best of them and now instead of working for the client, they only work
for a check, When you do that, not only are you doing a disservice to your
client, but you are not enjoying what you do.
In my career as a Realtor,
I have had my share of disappointments and have been taken advantage of many
times, but I also understand that as a professional, I can only do the best job
I can. When I am in the middle of a transaction, I am going to be the whipping
boy for my clients. They are going to blame me for everything, they are going
to yell at me, and question my judgment, but in the end, if I can get my
clients to the end of a successful transaction, all will be forgotten.
In my business of Property
Management in Anaheim Ca, I know that the most important thing for me to do is
keep my head and let all the negative words and even actions roll off my back
and never take any of what is said personally. If it ever does get to be too
much for me to take, I need to take myself out of the transaction and fire the
client. That way I can remain professional and they can get another Realtor
that they may be more comfortable with.
