The boiling point
We all have a boiling point and even in our business, when
we know we need to keep our cool, something can happen that just makes us lose
our cool and “BOOM” we explode.
This just happened to me, I am in a transaction and things
are going along pretty smooth. I am representing both the Buyer and the Seller,
so I have a duel responsibility. The buyer decided that he wanted to have his
contractor do the termite repair and he was going to pay anything over what we
negotiate. We came to an agreement and I took the agreement to the owner.
It
took some time to explain the negotiated terms to them and they seemed to
finally come to the conclusion that they would do it my way, so I went ahead and
drew up the paperwork.
A little background is appropriate.
I have been managing the
Sellers property for a couple of years and we have had no problems and a very
good relationship until I had to rent the property and I found the wife to be
very condescending to me during the rental process. We got through that and after the new lease was up,
they decided to sell this home. They lived about 75 miles away so they decided
to come down to see the property before we put it on the market. This was the
first time I had met them in person. I found the wife to be a very
condescending person to me and I really did not appreciate her attitude, but
again, in my Business of Property Management in Anaheim Ca. This is part of my business so I put the
property on the market and sold it for a very good price.
Now we are back to the negotiated terms for the termite.
After they had said that all was good, they called me the next day and was
bringing up all kind of issues that it was obvious they had talked to others
about the situation and now they were very much anxious about the situation. I
was answering all their questions and then the wife in her own condescending
way said that she would talk to the Escrow officer because she was very good. I
was incensed, as though the Escrow officer did anything other then what I tell
her to do so I finally snapped at her and told her that I did not appreciate he
disrespecting me and after a few other words we were off the phone. She
e-mailed me and said she appreciated what I am doing for them, again her condescension
is ripe.
The point is that I had had enough with her attitude. I don’t
mind her asking me as many questions as she likes, but I am very good at what I
do and I don’t like being talked down by a client. It took while but
then I had enough. I’m sure she will pout for a while but if they stay out of
my way, I will close this deal for them, but if she decides to let hers wanting
to be the smartest person in the room get in the way, I’m sure she will find a
way to kill a very good Transaction.
