Give everything 2 weeks
In my life, anytime I start something new, I tell myself
that I need to give it two weeks before I get frustrated and give up and that
has worked for me.
At the beginning of every year people set goals for the year
and so many want to lose weight. Losing weight is one of the most difficult
things to do, because we all love to eat and we love to eat good tasting food.
Dieting is a mistake, but starting to change the way you eat is a very good way
to lose weight, but not easy to do. If you come up with a plan, and start to implement
it, you need to force yourself to give the plan 2 weeks in order to give your
new plan a chance.
This goes for anything you want to do.
I can only speak for
myself and I by no means am an expert on brain functions, but I have found with
me that 2 weeks start to change my behavior and once my behavior have change I
actually feel guilty if I break my new plan.
A great example, working out. I get lazy every once in a
while, especially after Holidays and I find excuses not to work out. If I miss
a few workouts it becomes easier to make more and more excuses not to work out.
Once I get tired of feeling lousy and decide to get back into my workout
behavior, it is not easy to start up again. I start back slow and each day I
increase the intensity and after two weeks I am right back where I was before
my lazy side took over.
This approach could be used for any new plan we have. Never
jump right in, take it slowly and increase the plan every day. After 2 weeks
you will find yourself feeling more comfortable with your plan.
Let’s look at changing your diet. If you just stop eating
and try and starve yourself, you will never be able to keep that up and you
will feel miserable. If at each meal you cut down what you eat and each day you
cut back a little more, after 2 weeks you will become very comfortable with the
amount of food you are eating and slowly you have trained your brain to want
less food.
Giving any new activity at least 2 weeks to work is very
important and if you force yourself to implement the 2 week plan, you will find
that more of your projects will become plans you can live with.
