How much is too much?
I remember when I was learning about advertising, the
teacher made a point, that the more white space the better. It took me some
time to understand what she meant by that, but after a while it sunk in.
I was reading an interesting article yesterday, and the
basis of the article was how to make your home look like it cost you a lot of
money to decorate. The bottom line was to get rid of the clutter. It goes back
to my teacher and the white space. You don’t have to fill every spot in a room
with something.
Take a look at your kitchen for example. It is very easy to
fill every spot on the counter with some type of appliance or kitchen tool.
Most of those tools, you never use or at least use very sparingly. Why have
them on the counter. If you remove all the items on the counter that you don’t
need, you will see how much better your kitchen would look and how much more
room you will have to work.
Open space is a great way to make a room look rich, without
spending a lot of money. If you want to make a room look good, make sure the
clutter is gone. Remember. The more tables in a room, the more stuff will end
up on a table. We love to put things down on something, and tables are a great
space to get things out of our hands. Now I know we need tables, but try and
reduce the space for things to accumulate. I know for me, I am always amazed at
how much stuff ends up in my den every night. I put things away during the day,
but at night, there are cups and papers and containers and clothes all over. I
try to be clutter free, but in the evening all my efforts go for not. Why that
is, I don’t exactly know, but it happens almost every night.
I always go back to the white space on the paper. If you
fill a page with all kinds of stuff, it is not appealing to the eye and the
same goes for your home. Make sure you see some space in between your stuff.
