Fall landscaping can be fun
Every Fall I trim the tree’s around the house. I have a very
large Olive tree and large elm tree and many other smaller trees and shrubs.
The fall is my time to trim these tree’s back in order to get ready for the
Santa Ana winds that will blow. I enjoy the tree trimming, even though it takes
quite a bit of time and beats me up a little.
I often use holidays as an incentive to get work done and
Halloween is a great incentive for the tree trimming and also getting the front
yard in shape for the candy seeking children to come to the door. Once I start
the trimming process, I also like to add a tree or two and a light or two to my
landscaping.
Fall yard work can be a lot of work, but fun too. Many
stores put patio supplies and plants and trees on sale in the fall to clear
their inventory, and that is a great opportunity to save some money and make
your front yard look great. I like the forest look and what I mean by that, is
I like different trees and shrubs around the yard, I like palm trees and bird
of paradise, large and small. I like vines in some places and pine trees for
defining a property line. All my plants are pretty sturdy. I do like some flowering plants, like a hibiscus
plant and some other sturdy flowering shrubs. I am not into the dainty, need a
lot of attention type of plants. I Don’t have the patients for the plants that
need to be fed special food and trimmed in a special way. That type of plant
will not last long in my yard.
So this fall, get out into the yard and make it look great.
Don’t be afraid to try new things and also try and put different types of
plants in the yard. Have fun with your landscaping and instead of thinking of
it as work, make it a family event. Let each member of the family take a
section of the yard and landscape it their way and see what works and what does
not.
