Our Business is Property Management in Orange County California
Losing
a client is better than doing
the wrong thing
Every Real Estate Agent has had a
situation where the client wants them to do something that the Agent knows is
wrong. The question is how that Agent handles it. For an experienced Agent, it
is a pretty easy answer, you tell the client you can’t do what they are asking
and either the client changes, or the client gets fired. Yes, I said fired and
believe me, as and Real Estate Broker, I have fired several Clients and it
feels really good.
All of us want business and for an independent
company like mine, turning away business is not always easy, but when a client
does not have the same values as I do, I have no problem turning them away. I
understand that people may disagree with my strategy and I have no problem with
that, but as Realtor's we have an obligation to uphold certain values that are
not negotiable. Even if the client disagrees with those values, as long as they
abide by them, I have no problem, but if they ask me to go around those values,
I can’t do that and that is when I have to say goodbye.
As Real Estate Company that
specializes in Property Management, it is my obligation to make sure when it
comes to everyone who walks through my door that they are treated equally and I take that
very seriously. I never talk about anything with my clients except relevant
information that is important in making a decision in renting their property. I
have had clients who ask me for information that is not relevant, and I have told
them that I will not give them that information. Most of the time they
understand, but some have gotten very upset with me and they get fired.
There are something’s that Realtor's
are expected to do in order to be Politically correct, that I think go too far,
but as far as protecting people from being treated differently than others I
could not be more adamant in agreement
with the rules. All people should be treated with respect and given every
opportunity to prove that they are qualified to rent or buy any property no matter
who they are and as a California Real Estate Broker, I could care less who
people are I want everyone to be able to come to me and know they will be treated
fairly, and they will.
I go back many years when I was working
as a contractor and I was looking for a truck. I was ready to buy and I had the
cash. I was working everyday and the only time I had to shop was after work and
I was dressed as a contractor and not in a nice suit. I would walk into the
dealership and get ignored, because of the way I looked and the way I was
dressed. The one guy who did talk to me,
made the sale. That experience sticks with me to this day, and I learned to
treat everyone as if they are the next sale no matter how they look.
