The search for my Christmas tree
I always wait until 2 weeks before Christmas to get my
Christmas tree. Every year I go out and buy my tree and the last few years I
have ended up at Home Depot and had very good luck in finding a nice tree. I
have a vaulted ceiling so I need a good size tree. I go to my local Home Depot
as usual 2 weeks before Christmas and there were sparse pickings. So I go to
the next Home depot and the same. Now I noticed something different. I believe
that in years past, the people selling the trees were not Home Depot employees,
but they worked for the tree company, but this year the people seemed to be
Home depot employees. I may be wrong, but that’s what my perception was. I
called around and all the Home Depots had the same story, no taller trees and
no new shipments coming.
I was getting a little concerned, so I started going to the
local tree lots in the parking lots of shopping centers and the prices were
crazy for a nice sized tree. I went on the computer and searched for real
Christmas trees in my area and I found a couple of tree farms not too far away
and one of them had a coupon, so I went there yesterday and when I first got
there, I could see that even though there was a large area to choose from, I
could see that much of the area was cut already, but I started on my journey
through the trees. What I liked about this place was that the people working
there were very nice and they just let me go and do my thing.
I found two trees that looked pretty good, it was hard to
say exactly what they looked like, because they were growing against other trees
but I found someone and had them cut a very large tree down.
Now I told the
people who worked there that I was looking for a 9’ tree and the tree I found
was about 11’, so they charged me for a 9’ tree and with the coupon, that large
tree was very reasonable.
Now I still had really no Idea how the tree was going to
look, because of the blind areas that I could not evaluate when I picked the
tree, so I washed the tree and then the fight getting that large tree up on the
stand started and it was a fight. I put it up and took it down three times to cut it a
little shorter each time and when I finally stabilized it and trimmed it, it
looked very good.
It’s not a store bought perfectly manicured tree, it is a
farm grown majestic looking tree and when I get it decorated, I think it is
going to be a beautiful tree.
I want to mention the tree farm that was so gracious to me
and the people there were great and friendly. Richfield Pines in Yorba Linda
and I will be there next year.
