Do you really want a yard?
Everyone wants that beautiful front and back yard that you
see in the magazines or on TV and when people go shopping for a home, they can
be influenced by the lure of the yard for themselves. What they don’t think
about is how that yard gets taken care of.
If you are one who has never had a yard, it may be
overwhelming when you find out how much time it takes to maintain a nice front
or back yard. The more beautiful it is, the more time and money it takes. If
you have enough money to pay someone to keep your yard looking good, no
problem, if not, you may want to go over the pros and cons of that yard that
you are thinking about buying.
Lets first take a look at the pro’s of a nice yard.
There is nothing better than sitting on your porch or in
your garden and admiring your yard, trees and shrubs and grass can give you a
very relaxing space that you can go out and get away from the rest of the
world. If you have children, having them play in their own yard can also give
parents a satisfying feeling and also having a safe place for your children and
their friends to play is also very important. If your yard has a pool, it can
be a refreshing part of the day and a great place for family and friends to
gather for a great Summer party. Patio covers and gazebos are also very nice
amenities for your yard. There are plenty of great things to say about having a
nice yard and as for me, I would recommend a yard, but now it’s time to look at
the down side.
A nice yard takes time and money to maintain and since we have
already stated that if you have the money to pay someone to do the work, then
there is no issue, so let’s just talk about a do it yourself yard.
Grass is
great, but in order to keep that grass looking good, you need to cut and water
and feed the lawn. Keeping weeds off your lawn is a job by itself. The type of
grass you have will also be a big factor for maintenance. Trees and shrubs need
to be trimmed and also watered and fed. Spending a 3 day holiday weekend
working on your yard is not unusual and I would suggest buying stock in Home
Depot, because a nice chunk of change will be going there.
If your yard has a pool, then cleaning and maintaining the chemicals
is a day’s work and the expense of the electricity and gas to heat the pool can
be alarming.
I can list all kinds of bad things about having a yard, but
as I said, I would recommend it. Even though it is not easy and sometimes frustrating,
the rewards are great and after a long
Day of working in the yard, the peace and quiet and tranquil
feeling you will get as you relax in your well groomed patio will be well worth
the effort and expense.
