Marketing is the key to success, but can also annoy
potential clients
Being in business, I am very aware of how important marketing
a company is. I struggle with finding the most successful ways to market my
company, just as every company large or small does. The one thing that I never
want to do is be annoying to potential clients.
Mindless Marketing
Because I am in
business, I am also the target of other businesses that target me as a
potential customer and I am sensitive to that. What I don’t appreciate are
marketers who constantly bombard me with mindless recorded phone calls. Why do they do that? I will never buy or be a
part of a company that treats me with such disrespect and anytime I hear the
recorded voice on my phone, I hang up, but it is so annoying to even have to
answer the phone and hear that recording.
Playing the numbers game
When a Company uses recorded messages to market themselves,
they are playing the numbers game and not giving any respect to a potential
client. What confounds me is that since this type of marketing still exists,
theses companies must be seeing some success using it. I can’t understand why.
Who would buy from some company that is so disrespectful that they can’t even
put a human on the phone to talk to you?
When I market my company to someone, I want it to be a very
personal event. Now I know, I am a small company and larger companies are going
after a larger pool of people, but no company should forget that the people
they are marketing to, want to be treated with respect. For Example: When I see
a Coke commercial, they don’t annoy me. Coke can’t call me personally and ask
me to buy their product, but they advertise in a way that allows me to make the
choice whether I want to sit and watch their commercial or not. They play the
numbers game, but in a respectful way. They show their product in a 30 second
commercial in a positive way and try and influence me to go out and buy their
product. If the commercial is done right, it can feel as though they are talking
directly to me. If I were to receive a recorded message from Coke on the phone,
I would never buy their product.

I have come to the conclusion that educating potential
clients on your product or service without putting them out in any way, is the
best way to bring potential clients to a company. For me, I try and put
information out there that answers question my potential clients may have about
not only my company, but about a situation they may be in. I admit, it is not
always an easy thing to do, but I think that in the long run, it will bring
great rewards.
